Petrol Pressure Washers
A petrol pressure washer offers you numerous advantages. For example, it generates a strong water pressure with which you can effectively remove even stubborn dirt. You don’t have to use much force. In addition, the impressive area performance ensures that the work is done quickly. You also don’t need a power connection nearby, because the gasoline tank provides the drive.

Petrol Pressure Washers
Water pressure plays a very important role in the selection. It is specified in the unit of bar. The greater it is, the more likely it is to remove stubborn dirt, such as tree resin or old lichen. As a rule, the pressure for home appliances is between 80 and 200 bar. This can already solve all sorts of problems.
A petrol pressure washer usually has at least 140 bar. High-quality devices can also achieve more than 200 bar. They are then suitable for particularly problematic cases.
Professional devices can even reach 2000 bar. These devices are not only extremely expensive, but also very dangerous. They can easily cut stones and metals. They are therefore only used in industry. For comparison: a garden hose ejects water at 3-4 bar pressure.
Furthermore, one should pay attention to the area performance. If you want to clean large areas in a comfortable period of time, you also need the corresponding area performance. It is usually stated directly by the manufacturer, so that you can estimate the working time. From 50 m²/hour, it is possible to clean even large driveways and facades quickly.
If the area output is not directly specified, it is worth taking a look at the delivery rate. In private use, it is often between 300 and 600 liters per hour. The higher it is, the faster you can blast large areas. If you want to clean particularly large areas, such as those found on a farm, you should aim for a delivery rate of at least 800 liters/hour. However, such devices are not exactly cheap.
High-pressure cleaners are generally energy efficient. With 600 liters/hour, you can already do very intensive and large-scale work. From a garden hose can come out more than 3000 liters/hour and the result may still not be satisfactory.
The engine of a petrol pressure washer is very powerful. Some devices have more than 10 horsepower, providing a very powerful water jet. Despite the power, modern specimens are quite energy efficient. This is especially true if an auto-stop function is available. Here, power is only called up when it is actually needed.
If the pressure washer can heat the water, it also works with fuel oil. Since internal combustion engines are complex in design, consumer prices are not so favorable. In addition, there is a certain amount of noise, so it is recommended to wear hearing protection during operation. In addition, they are massive, with which the total weight and dimensions can quickly increase.
As a rule, compared to universal electric motors, the motors are very durable. High-quality motors easily survive hundreds of hours of working time.
Petrol pressure washers are quite heavy. Professional specimens weigh over 100 kg. Therefore, it is important that the user is assisted in maneuvering. Smooth-running wheels can provide this. If there is also a handle, the device can then simply be pushed in front of you or, alternatively, pulled.
Because the heavy specimens can not be lifted, you should analyze the path between the site and the place of use. The pressure washer must be able to gain access over the terrain in between.
In operation, it may be useful to use a long hose (12 m+). In this case, it is possible to work on the move without having to constantly move the device. You only need to pay attention to the water connection, because, after all, the devices do not need electricity.
Furthermore, it should be easy to adjust the pressure and the jet. If this succeeds on the lance, you do not have to interrupt the work when the surface to be processed changes.
Of course, safety also plays a role. One should, when using hot water, wear long clothing and protective goggles. The device must be uncomplicated to put into operation and very quickly shut down in case of emergencies. This can be ensured if there is a button to this effect on the lance. Alternatively, the on/off switch should be at a sufficient height so that you do not have to bend down first.
Furthermore, when choosing a pressure washer with a gasoline tank, you should pay attention to the type of cleaning agent. Most devices can be operated only with cold or lukewarm water. They are suitable for medium and moderately difficult dirt. Their advantage is environmental compatibility. In addition, the splashing water does not affect the user’s health.
Some devices can also operate with hot water up to over 150 °C in some cases. This has a more intensive effect on the surface, so that even stubborn dirt, such as heavy lichen infestation, can be removed. At the same time, of course, the risk of causing damage increases. Sensitive woods and plastics should not be treated with hot water. In order for it to be ideally effective, you should always wait a moment and let it soak in. Hot water devices either work with a heating coil that heats the water, or must already be fed with warm water.
Another option is the use of chemical detergents. They are filled into a separate tank and mixed with the water during work. In this way, it is possible to be more aggressive and remove dirt that would have survived normal tap water unscathed. However, because there is a certain environmental impact, it should be used cautiously. In addition, one must not expose oneself to splash water, which is harmful to health. Protective goggles and possibly even a half-amskin are recommended.
Advantages of Petrol Pressure Washers
- Very powerful devices that easily remove even rock-hard chewing gum, tree sap and lichen
- Very mobile, because no power connection is required
- High area performance allows cleaning of driveways, terraces and facades in a very short time
- Heating coils can enable hot water operation
- Handles and wheels facilitate transport
- Devices are very durable
Disadvantages of Petrol Pressure Washers
- Higher purchase price
- Not quite as easy to handle as the small electric pressure washers
Petrol Pressure Washers – Not always the right choice
Petrol pressure washers are very convenient. While neighbors scrub paths and terraces with a lot of effort, you can clean them in no time. Since you can work in an ergonomic position, you don’t have to worry about back pain. In addition, the motors are more powerful than universal electric motors. Thus, you can remove any kind of dirt.
However, the use of such a device can also lead to problems. Powerful motors are quite loud, so you should put on hearing protection. For finicky neighbors, this circumstance can lead to upsets. In addition, the devices emit exhaust fumes, which can smell unpleasant.
Physically weaker people should plan for the fact that transporting a gasoline-powered machine is more strenuous. The dead weight is sometimes over 60 kg. Such models can no longer be carried, which is why they have to be pushed or pulled. Accordingly, the path between the site and the area of use should not be too obstacles and uneven.
